Simba Tagz a.k.a Simbarashe Tagwireyi has been doing his thing for a long long time now. We first heard of Simba Tagz in 2009 as a young and upcoming talent when he produced for Ammunition Girls and he already had the X Factor. It’s 2017 and Simba Tagz is doing bigger and better things.

For some reason I feel for the amount of talent Tagz possesses and his achievements, the wider Zim audience still has not fully appreciated what he has to offer. One thing that makes Tagz stand out is his willingness to fully embrace all sides to his Zimboness in his music. Firstly, it gives the music a unique touch. Secondly, when he gives his perspective of the music that is most popular right now, it elevates his production prowess. For all the love he receives from fans out there, there are some that don’t quite appreciate what he has done and is doing especially for the Zimbabwean music industry. I look at the smash hit song Akube that he produced for Nigerian musician, Dotman and I totally see not only a Zimbabwean star but an African icon on the making. He has also worked with music legends such as Zubz who was undoubtedly one of Zim’s best African exports in his time. You don’t need to look far, Simba Tagz probably had a hand in a number of songs you loved in the last 8 years or so.

Simba Tagz - Totenda EP (2017)

His latest EP, Totenda, is a short yet brilliant offering which is exclusively distributed by Tizwe.com. I loved all 5 tracks and my favourite was between Totenda Mwari and a scorching Zvakanaka Remix featuring Boom Beto. Without giving too much away, this is an EP worth the download and if anything, shows why Simba Tagz is creating a unique Zim sound that will shape what we listen to.

He deserves every good thing he gets from his hard work in the music industry. He is a true leader.
