What is Zhinyu Day? Ndoochii ichocho?
Zhinyu Day is one of those very ‘Kunakirwa’ ideas we had. It is all about spreading warmth and love as Zimbos in a simple manner; by SMILING! Reminding each other that we are warm and embracing people. Things are often quite challenging for many Zimbos whether in Zim or out of Zim, that’s reality. Zhinyu Day is the one day we choose to set aside all differences and extend that Southern African hospitality to one another. It ran in 2011 and 2012 and we are bringing it back in 2016!
How does it work?
It is quite simple really… we ask Zimbos all over the world to send us a picture of themselves making a funny face or showing off their infectious Colgate smile. We call them ‘Zhinyus’ or ‘Zhins’ (for those saladically inclined). This year we are asking Zimbos to take their Zhinyu with their Zim Flag. Let’s show some pride for the country we love! Once we reach a certain number of submissions we will then make a collage poster and it is accessible to all for download. The poster is the real gold here… You can send it to your friends, family or whoever just to brighten up their day with Zimbabwean smiles. People obviously have fun trying to find someone they know on the poster as well. It is awesome! And there you have it… Zhinyu Day!
